“The message really got across about erasing the stigmas in this area. It was refreshing to hear the issues being addressed with such honesty and openness.”

On Saturday, October 28th Candice Hawley’s “Let’s Talk About It” forum in East Palo Alto brought together a diverse group from around the Bay Area to “get the conversation going” about mental health issues. Their goal was to use open conversation and sharing of information to help erase unhealthy stigmas surrounding mental health. A powerful presentation on anxiety and depression by MFT Tanya Pekker, followed by panel discussion, Q&A and stories of lived experience all combined together to provide an engaging and dynamic time.

“I was surprised and overwhelmed by what people with mental health challenges can go through on a daily basis. I understand now why it’s so important to talk about emotional health and be informed. I also appreciated learning more about the biological basis behind depression and that it’s not just a feeling. This knowledge really helps me.”
