Nigerian Innovator Turns Trash Into Furniture
Olamide is a Nigerian engineer, but she found another passion after seeing waste repurposed as art on her vacation in Dubai. She knew she had to do something about the waste in her country. She started a business, Pearl Recycling, taking solid waste like bottles or tires and upcycles them into furniture. She didn’t stop there, she also employs 50 women, with a special focus on vulnerable women who need help. Read the full story here.
Nun On a Run for Orphans
Sister Mary Beth Lloyd, a nun in New Jersey, is running 10k races to raise money for kids who have become orphans due to AIDS. She raises money and awareness for these orphans through an organization called Orphans Rising. Watch her run and tell her story here.

Amsterdam’s Restaurant Freud is a sustainable restaurant offering seasonal and organically sourced ingredients. They are also a very socially conscious business providing training and employment to those struggling with mental health and addiction issues. Read the whole story here.
Schools Made of Plastic Bottles are Changing Education
In Guatemala, “Bottle Schools” are changing education and creating opportunities for kids. These schools are built from plastic bottles stuffed with trash that cannot be recycled. An organization called Hug It Forward started this project to build affordable schools for children and also clean up the environment. The plastic bottles are covered in cement to make “eco-bricks” and this is all made possible by the community. It has been a very successful project with over 100 schools already built.
