High Schooler Makes Sure Nobody Eats Alone at Lunch

Denis Estimon knows what it’s like to be the new kid so he started a club at Boca Raton High School in Florida called We Dine Together. By making friendships and starting conversations, this club makes sure that no one at lunchtime is eating by themselves. “It’s not a good feeling, like you’re by yourself. And that’s something that I don’t want anybody to go through,” says Denis. Now he is out of high school and spreading this club to high schools all across the nation. Watch the video interview here.

Hector Guadalupe grew up in an impoverished neighborhood. After losing both parents, he was arrested for drug dealing and served a 10-year sentence. Once he got out he was challenged to get back into society, but he figured out his passion and started a nonprofit that trains ex-cons how to be gym instructors.

Mikayla Holmgren, 22, has been called a “trailblazer” for being the first person with Down Syndrome to compete in the Miss Minnesota pageant. She is an inspiration for many and won the Spirit of Miss USA award. She stated, “With your help, I can help break through walls,” and that having special needs “does not define” her.
